If there was one vernissage to attend, for me this was totally the highlight of the week here at Les Recontres Arles Photography.
Bulletproof by Vee Speers
Vee's work is excellent and speaks to a time in our life that is imperceptible.
Gallery Nuit, in the heart of Arles, completely packed out for the opening, only allowing people in as people left!
Vee's work was presented in a Salon type space, opulent, soft and very classy. The images revisit the children from 'The Birthday Party' 6 years on, narrating the characters at an age where they are preparing for the world: 'Bulletproof'
In each image, the narrative speaks beyond the subject: sharp, clean, abiding.
The constructed image deconstructing the essence of adolescence as utopian, magical and armoured. It is beautiful work! I love it!
The work conjures up thoughts about my own mythical shields invented to protect me from pain, meet challenges and journey on.
What tools did you use to keep your world safe?
It's a great question and I congratulate Vee on her perceptions.
B E A U T I F U L L !
The celebration of new work begins and the champagne flows!
We followed from the opening and went to dinner in the most poshest restaurant in Arles I am sure. The joy and the laughing continues.....
And then a grand tour of the Julius Ceaser décore....
Followed by some hilarious posing....
Which went a bit caraaaaazzzzzy........... Censored!
Fabulous memorable night!!
But wait .. There is more...
Bulletproof, on sale in bookshops, is a beautiful publication. The book also has images from both bodies of work and I would totally recommend sourcing this publication. Check out her work in cyber land.
